We are excited to confirm that last year’s Norwegian representative in the Golden Trail Nordic final, Anders Kjaerevik will be back in Nuuksio also this year! In 2021 he finished 6th at 3:22:38 and was not fully satisfied with his result. After Nuuksio, he had a great end of the season with several top positions in big international events and is currently on the 17th position in Golden Trail World Series overall ranking.

We had a chance to chat with him right after he had made the decision to return to Nuuksio also this year.

Hello Anders, it’s great to see you again in Nuuksio! What made you interested in coming back?

— I really enjoyed the stay and race in Nuuksio last year, even If I started too offensive and exploded half way. I was well welcomed and its also great to meet the Salomon Finland team again. The nature and the trail is completely different to what we have in Norway. It’s like running in the heart of the 1000 lakes land!

How did your season continue last year after Nuuksio? Apparently you had a few great races?

— Just a week after Nuuksio I took a silver medal in the National Championship in Ultra-trail. Also I was 3rd in the Golden Trail final in El-hierro. I ended my season with a silver medal in the European Sky-ultra Championship. So I definitely had a great progression after my stay in Finland.

What are your expectations for 2022 Nuuksio Classic?

— This year I can’t take part in the Golden Trail National Series, because i’m top 20 in the World Series, so I will try to enjoy the race as much as possible and not focus too much on the result. Nuuksio is really tight up to my other goals this season,  so I will use the race in preparation for this.

Now that you know the course, do you plan any specific preparation? How about the race tactics?

— Last year I underestimated the course because I felt it was flat. With all the small uphills and downhills accumulated, it’s actually quite heavy in the end. So this year I know that I need to start a little more conservative and also be more clever with nutrition on the way. Since I can’t participate in the Nordic final, I will try to do my own race, but of course run as fast as I can.

Warmly welcome to Nuuksio again Anders! We whish you a successful race!
