Nuuksio Classic organizes four community runs on the event course during the summer. They are free and open for eveyone, no race sing-up required.
The aim of these community runs is to enjoy the beautiful Nuuksio trails, learn to know the race course and fellow runners and just to have a few good long training runs in good company. After three of the four runs we have also booked a sauna along a lake which rounds up a perfect trail running experience in a very Finnish way. If you want to integrate into the trail running community in Helsinki area, there’s no better way than joining these runs!
The runs 2-4 cover the marathon course. With the community run 1 and an extra long version of the run 3 you can complete the whole Nuuksio70 Trail Ultra course in four parts.
We expect signing up via events created on Nuuksio Classicin Facebook page. This is to ensure that we have enough instructors. If you are not on Facebook, let us know by email via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sat 10.6. klo 9:00 ja 10:00 Kattila (Kattilantie 423)
Mainly Nuuksio70 trails. Two distances, starts at 9:00 (3-3,5h / 20-25km) and at 10:00 (2h/12-15km). Exact distances to be decided during the run depending on the participant’s ambitions. Both starts with slow groups (8,5-9,5min/km), longer run also with a slightly faster pace (7,5min/km). Note, on the road these pace levels equal to 6,5-7min/km and 5-5,5min/km).
After run refreshment in Kattilan smoke sauna at 12-14. Bring your own swimsuit and towel + food & hydration!
Mon 19.6. klo 18.00, Kattila (Kattilantie 423)
11,5km, km’s 28-37 of the marathon race course. Flat fast trails, duration depending on the group 1-1,5h. Smoke sauna included, Bring your own swimsuit and towel.
Sun 13.8. klo 10.00, Solvalla Swinghill (Nuuksiontie 82)
23km, km’s 11-28 and 7-11 of the marathon race course. Duration 2,5-4h depending on pace group. This is the slowest and hardest part of the course in wilderness far from roads. This run is ideal for testing equipment, hydration and food for the race. Options: 1) Short cut after 15km along a road -> total distance 18km. 1) 10km extra loop of Nuuksio70 course -> total distace 33km (or with short cut in the end, 28km).

Wed 23.8. klo 18.00, Hotel Nuuksio (Naruportintie 68)
14,5km, first 7km and km’s 37-42 of the marathon course. Mainly fast trails but partly slower on Romvuori hill. Duration 1,5-2h depending on pace group.
Lakeside sauna booked from Hotel Nuuksio. Snacks available from the hotel.
Few words about Nuuksio Classic community runs: We started them in the summer 2012 to promote the first Nuuksio Classic, to introduce the race course to runners and to allow runners to meet each other already before the race. It all worked great and community runs became a tradition. What’s very delighting is that a number of other events have adopted the same approach that nicely expands that availability of trail running in Finland.
After five years, Nuuksio Classic is a well established event, and the primary motivation for community runs has changed. Now we arrange them because running in Nuuksio national park is pure bliss and we want to share our favorite trails and these wonderful experiences with other runners.
