Golden Trail World Series brings together the world’s best trail runners for six different competitions around the world. The competitions are held between May and September, after which the five-day final competition of the Golden Trail series will be held in Madeira from October 26.
Nordic representatives selected in Nuuksio Classic
As the Golden Trail World Series gathers the international elite, the Golden Trail National Series brings together successful runners at the local level and gives them the chance to win a ticket to the final race in Madeira to compete against the best in the world.
The Nordic Golden Trail National Series includes four races, Hammer Trail in Denmark, Bodom Trail in Finland, Fjällmaraton in Sweden and Stranda Fjord Trail Race in Norway. The winners of the competitions get to compete in the Nordic finals at the Nuuksio Classic on September 3 and at the same time aim for the Golden Ticket to the global final of the series organized in Madeira. In the Nordic countries, there are two golden tickets, one for women and one for men.
Who takes the Golden Ticket to the Global final?
Last year, the winners of the Nordic final competition and the representatives of the Nordic countries in the international final competition were Finland’s Anna-Stina Erkkilä and Mårten Boström. This year, the following runners will compete for the golden tickets of the international finals at the Nuuksio Classic:
– Finland: Tommi Lintala and Anna-Stina Erkkilä
– Sweden: Oscar Claesson
– Denmark: Frederik Ernst and Laura Hulgaard
– Norway: Jonas Hesthaug and Marte Emilsen
As the Swedish women’s winner was unable to participate, Finland was awarded one extra ticket. The ticket went to Pirjo Saukko, who came second in the women’s competition of the Bodom Trail in Finland.
